ONDO STATE GOV’T SWINGS INTO ACTION AS HON. WELLINGTON ADEBAWO LEADS TEAM TO ASSESS LANDSLIDE IN AKOKO SOUTH-WEST

The Ondo State Government has demonstrated its commitment to the safety and well-being of its people, as the Special Assistant to the Governor on Emergency Response, Hon. (Prince) Wellington Oriade Adebawo, on Saturday July 12, 2025 led a team to assess the recent landslide that occurred beside a major bridge along Iwaro – Oke-Oka road, Akoko Southwest Local Government Area.

The inspection team, which included the Director of Ecology, Ondo State Ministry of Environment, Mr. Rotimi Ogunleye alongside his deputy, as well as the Chairman of Akoko South-West Local Government Area, Hon. Ayo Ajana, arrived at Oke-Oka Akoko and proceeded to the palace of the Olubaka of Oka, His Royal Majesty Oba (Dr.) Adebori Adeleye. The team was received warmly by the monarch and other prominent stakeholders of the community, including Bashorun Sehinde Arogbofa, Amb Rowland Omowo, Comrade Ajayi Danjuma, and Comrade Bode Adeniyi.

During the visit, Hon. Wellington Adebawo conveyed the regards of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to the Oba and the people, stressing that the governor had directed him to assess the disaster and provide a comprehensive report. He assured the community that the governor was committed to finding a lasting solution to the landslide, which had caused significant disruption to the lives of residents. He appreciated the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, Chief Olugbenga Atiba for promptly relaying the information regarding the landslide to the government.

Oba Adeleye expressed his appreciation to the Ondo State Government for its swift response to the disaster, noting that the government’s actions demonstrated its commitment to the safety and well-being of its citizens. He also commended the governor for his proactive approach to addressing the challenges faced by the state.

Bashorun Arogbofa also appreciated the state government for its prompt response to the disaster, urging that a long-term solution be provided to address the challenges posed by the landslide. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to addressing the disaster, including measures to prevent future occurrences.

Hon. Ajana, the Chairman of Akoko South-West Local Government Area, expressed his delight at the swift response of the state government to the disaster. He noted that the government’s actions had brought hope to the affected communities, who were struggling to come to terms with the devastating impact of the landslide.

Following the inspection of the landslide, Hon. Adebawo, Hon. Ajana, and their teams also visited other areas affected by erosion in Supare, Ajegunle, and Oba Akoko, all in Akoko South-West Local Government Area. The team assessed the extent of the damage with a view to providing a lasting solution.
