Plumptre’s Family Celebrates as Super Falcons Clinch WAFCON Title
Ashleigh Plumptre’s mother and sister were spotted cheering from the stands at Rabat’s Olympic Stadium as Nigeria’s Super Falcons made a stunning comeback to defeat Morocco 3-2 and win the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Saturday night.
The Al Ittihad captain played a crucial role in the historic victory, helping Nigeria overturn a two-goal deficit to secure their 10th WAFCON title. Her solid performance in both defence and attack earned her praise from Super Falcons coach, Justine Madugu.
“She really deserves to be in the team of the group stage,” Madugu said. “She was outstanding defensively and offensively.”
Born in Leicester, England, on May 8, 1998, Plumptre has Nigerian roots through her paternal grandfather. She made her debut for Nigeria in 2022 and was part of the squad at the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
