Private jet crash-lands at Kano airport
A private jet operated by Flybird Aircraft Management Services Ltd has crash-landed at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano State.
The Abuja–Kano flight, with registration number 5N-ISB, incident occurred on Sunday morning, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
In a statement, Flybird said all 11 passengers and crew members on board were uninjured and safely disembarked.
The company said the flight crew adhered to established operational and safety procedures, bringing the aircraft to a safe stop on the runway.
“The aircraft has been secured, and the incident has been formally reported to the relevant aviation authorities,” the statement said.
Flybird added that a detailed technical inspection and investigation are ongoing in line with regulatory requirements, reiterating its commitment to safety and operational excellence.
Flybird Aircraft Management Services is a non-scheduled operator based in Abuja. The company received its Air Operator Certificate from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority in June 2024.
Seven months later, one of its aircraft bound for Accra was involved in an incident that reportedly led to the loss of two engines mid-air.
The Kano incident adds to a series of aviation occurrences recorded in recent months. On May 24, two people were injured when a training aircraft crash-landed at Ilorin airport in Kwara State.
Similarly, on December 11, 2024, a cargo aircraft operated by Allied Air crash-landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, following a landing gear failure.
On October 24, 2024, a helicopter crash in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, claimed three lives.
