IKEDC asks customers to submit tax ID details by Feb 20 or risk service suspension

Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) has asked its customers to submit their tax identification details on or before February 20 to avoid possible disruption of electricity services.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, the distribution company said the directive is in line with the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, which took effect on January 1, 2026.

IKEDC said the law requires all invoices, including electricity bills, to carry at least one form of identification. It warned that customers who fail to comply may not receive their electricity bills after the deadline.

The company added that prolonged failure to submit the required information could lead to service suspension.

According to IKEDC, acceptable identification details include a tax identification number (TIN), Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration number, or national identification number (NIN).

“To enable compliance with this statutory requirement and ensure the information is reflected on January 2026 and subsequent bills, customers are requested to provide any one of the required details by completing the designated form,” the company said.

It noted that any invoice issued without the required identification is considered invalid under the Act, stressing that this could prevent the generation of electricity bills.

IKEDC thanked customers for their cooperation and urged them to comply promptly with the directive.
