He owns cars, a house’ — Wale Adenuga addresses Papa Ajasco’s claim of financial struggle
Wale Adenuga has responded to claims by Abiodun Ayoyinka, popularly known as Papa Ajasco, over alleged financial struggles tied to the use of the iconic character.
Ayoyinka had alleged over the weekend that Wale Adenuga Productions restricts him from profiting commercially from the Papa Ajasco persona outside its productions, limiting his income opportunities.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Adenuga clarified that while Ayoyinka cannot independently use the character for private business ventures in order to protect the brand, he is allowed to feature in advertisements with the company’s approval.
Adenuga described the actor’s claims as a “public show of comedy” and a misrepresentation of facts, suggesting that Ayoyinka may be using social media narratives as a source of income. He stressed that their relationship remains cordial.
He also questioned the portrayal of financial hardship, noting Ayoyinka’s long career in public service with the Lagos State Government and continued opportunities in the entertainment industry.
According to him, Ayoyinka served the state for over three decades and was once a prominent figure in its cultural troupe, gaining recognition during the tenure of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as governor and under subsequent administrations. Adenuga added that the actor only retired recently.
The producer further revealed that the company had previously gifted Ayoyinka a vehicle and noted that he has used several cars, including a Mercedes-Benz, over the years. He also stated that the actor owns a house in Ogun State.
Adenuga emphasised that actors under WAP are not restricted from taking other roles using their real names. He cited colleagues such as Pa James, Mama Ajasco, Boy Alinco, Miss Pepeiye, Akpan, and Oduma as examples of cast members who regularly appear in other productions.
He reaffirmed that WAP pays its talents in line with industry standards and meets its financial obligations promptly, dismissing allegations of exploitation as false and misleading.
