Mum of TikToker pleads with Igboho after son’s criticism
The mother of TikToker Baba Alado has appealed to Sunday Igboho for forgiveness following her son’s public criticism of the Yoruba Nation activist.
In an emotional video, she described her son as a child who made a mistake and asked for leniency. She explained that she raised him through bricklaying, adding that his father is now elderly and frail.
Baba Alado, alongside his colleague Funny Thinker, is known for Yoruba-language comedy skits that often reflect daily life in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The controversy began after Igboho, in a widely circulated video, endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 presidential election. He also stated that opposition figures, including Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, would not be welcome in Yoruba-speaking states.
His remarks drew backlash, with Baba Alado and Funny Thinker describing them as unconstitutional. Funny Thinker argued that no individual has the authority to restrict political activities, noting that the Nigerian constitution guarantees freedom of movement and political participation.
Tensions escalated after a voice note, allegedly from Igboho, surfaced online. In the audio, he was said to have instructed that the two comedians be brought to his residence in Ibadan, with a tone perceived as threatening.
Reacting, Funny Thinker maintained that he had done nothing wrong, while Baba Alado rejected any form of intimidation, stating that the message amounted to a threat.
However, Baba Alado later softened his position, issuing a public apology and asking Igboho to forgive him, saying his earlier reaction was driven by fear.
In a follow-up video, his mother also pleaded directly with Igboho, urging him to show mercy. She claimed her son had been influenced by his colleague and appealed for compassion.
“He has only you. Please forgive him. I raised him through bricklaying. His father is aged. I beg you in the name of God,” she said.
