NECO rules out extension for 2026 SSCE registration

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced that it will not extend the registration deadline for the 2026 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE).

In a statement issued by its Registrar and Chief Executive, Professor Dantani Wushishi, the council urged schools, proprietors, principals, and commandants to complete candidate registration within the stipulated timeframe.

NECO fixed Monday, May 25, 2026, as the deadline for normal registration, while late registration will close on Friday, May 29, 2026, stressing that no further extension will be granted.

The council advised schools to strictly comply with the schedule to ensure candidates are duly registered and adequately prepared for the examination.

Wushishi noted that adherence to the deadlines is essential for the smooth conduct of the SSCE, a critical examination that determines students’ access to tertiary education, scholarships, and other post-secondary opportunities.

He warned that failure to meet the deadlines could prevent candidates from sitting the examination, potentially affecting their academic progression.

The announcement, NECO said, is part of ongoing efforts to improve examination administration and keep stakeholders informed of key timelines.
