Nigerian music star Wizkid has broken his silence following a widely circulated altercation involving his official disc jockey, DJ Tunez, and Afrobeats heavyweight Burna Boy.
The incident occurred on Monday, April 6, during “Obi’s House,” a weekly celebrity gathering hosted by DJ Obi in Lagos.
According to eyewitness accounts and viral videos, tensions escalated while DJ Tunez was handling music at the event. Conflicting reports suggest the disagreement may have stemmed from playing an unreleased track by Burna Boy without approval or perceived favouritism toward Wizkid’s songs.
Witnesses said Burna Boy confronted the DJ, leading to a heated exchange that turned physical. Videos show a chaotic scuffle involving multiple individuals, with security struggling to restore order. DJ Tunez was briefly seen on the ground before being escorted away. No serious injuries have been officially confirmed.
On Wednesday, April 8, Wizkid responded in a strongly worded social media post criticising Burna Boy over the incident. The post, written in Pidgin English, condemned what appeared to be a group attack on the DJ and quickly gained widespread attention online.
Earlier, DJ Tunez accused Burna Boy of initiating the violence, claiming he was attacked from behind and that he defended himself despite being outnumbered.
In a separate viral video, Burna Boy appeared to mock the incident by altering song lyrics and theatrically falling to the ground, referencing footage from the clash. He has yet to issue an official statement.
The incident has reignited conversations about rivalries within Nigeria’s Afrobeats scene, particularly among Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido.
In response, the Nigerian DJ Association announced a temporary boycott of Burna Boy’s music, describing the altercation as an assault and calling for respect and protection for DJs.
Public reactions remain divided, with supporters on both sides debating the circumstances surrounding the clash. No police report has been filed as of the time of reporting.
