SECURITY: HON FASUA UNVEILS AKURE-SOUTH SECURITY JOINT TASK FORCE TO ENHANCE COMMUNITY SAFETY
The Akure South Local Government has officially launched the Akure South Joint Security Task Force (AKSJTF), a major move aimed at bolstering security, fighting crime, and safeguarding lives and property across the area.
This historic event, which drew royal fathers, political leaders, community leaders, stakeholders, religious figures, and residents, signified what was described as “a new dawn” in Akure South’s security framework.
The ceremony began with an opening prayer led by Dr Gbenga Jemiluyi, the APC Chairman of Akure South Local Government, followed by the introduction of the dignitaries.
The representative of the Deji of Akure Kingdom, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo Odundun II, Oba Oluwagbenga Adewole, alongside several royal fathers from within and outside Akure South, expressed appreciation to the chairman for the initiative and the wisdom behind it. He commented that the initiative is commendable because it came at the right time and called on the sons and daughters of Akure to support it.
The Chairman of the Security Committee, Chief Olu Adekunle Ajanaku, acknowledged all existing protocols and stated that the establishment of the Akure South Security Joint Task Force marks the start of a new era in the fight against insecurity in Akure South.
He explained that criminals, bandits, and other unlawful offenders would no longer find refuge in the forests and communities of Akure South. Leveraging his extensive experience in national security operations, he assured residents of his dedication to contributing his expertise to the success of the initiative.
Chief Ajanaku further cautioned task force members against intimidation, abuse of authority, and misconduct, urging them to operate with discipline, professionalism, and integrity at all times. He also appealed to traditional rulers across the local government to work closely with the security team to ensure peace and stability across all communities.
Representatives from financial institutions, including Globus Bank, Premium Trust Bank, and other stakeholders, were also recognised for their support and presence.
In his remarks, the representative of the Deji of Akure Kingdom, Oba Oluwagbenga Adewole, praised the Executive Chairman for the timely initiative, noting that insecurity remains one of Nigeria’s foremost challenges today.
He urged all royal fathers to back the Akure South Joint Security Task Force and advised them to return to their communities to further educate their people on cooperating with the task force to fight crime and all related issues.
During his keynote address, the Akure South Local Government Executive Chairman and ALGON Chairman, Ondo State, Hon. Dr Gbenga Fasua Timothy, thanked God for the successful launch of the security team.
He emphasised that, as the Chief Security Officer of Akure South, his key goals are to foster peace and create a safe environment for both current and future residents of Akure South.
He also revealed that the Akure South Security Joint Task Force will operate under a well-defined protocol and legal framework, urging members to act fairly, professionally, and responsibly.
The Chairman explained that the JTF aims to ensure residents can sleep peacefully and move freely without fear of harassment, violence, or crime.
At the official unveiling, the Chairman introduced the JTF members to royal leaders, stakeholders, spiritual and religious figures, political representatives, and the community, describing the initiative as a new chapter in the area’s security and development. He also presented a Toyota Hilux vehicle and ten bikes for surveillance.
Representing the community, Mr Idowu Olatunji commended the Chairman for his proactive approach to security.
Former Governor’s Special Adviser Hon. Bosun Ogunleye praised the security plan as a vital structure that should be maintained beyond the current administration. He called on the chairman to focus on sustaining the initiative and urged residents to support it for long-term success.
Stakeholders stressed that the main goals of the JTF include enhancing security throughout Akure South, fighting crime, safeguarding communities and borders, and fostering harmony among residents.
The event’s closing speech was given by Hon. Ife Ologunneta, head of Oyemekun LCDA, who thanked the Chairman, royal fathers, stakeholders, and guests for their support in promoting peace and growth.

Hon. Olamilekan Falade, Dr S.B. Akerele, Hon. Idowu Otetubi Former Chairman Akure Local government, Hon. Sunday Kekereowo Chairman Akure west LCDA, Hon. Taiwo Kayode Chairman Akure East LCDA, Barr. Kegbe Baratei, HOLGA, all councillors, the chief of staff Prince Iteyemi Adegoroye, supervisory councillors, and special advisers.
The launch of the Akure South Security JTF marks a significant move towards ensuring peace, stability, and better security for everyone in the area.
