House of reps aspirant rejects Kwara APC primary, seeks fresh election

A House of Representatives aspirant under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, Oluwasegun Olaoye, has rejected the outcome of the party’s primary election for the Ekiti/Irepodun/Oke-Ero/Isin federal constituency, describing the process as flawed and illegitimate.

In a petition addressed to the APC national chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, Olaoye alleged that the primary election held on Friday was invalid and compromised.

The petition, which was also copied to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), the Kwara APC chairman and the appeal committee for the exercise, claimed that no credible primary election took place across the constituency.

Olaoye accused party officials of failing to conduct a proper accreditation and voting process, alleging that there was no transparent collation of results in accordance with the Electoral Act 2026 and the APC’s electoral guidelines.

According to him, the process did not reflect the wishes of party members in the four local government areas of Ekiti, Irepodun, Oke-Ero and Isin.

He further alleged that the exercise was riddled with irregularities that could damage the credibility of the APC within the constituency.

Despite his grievances, Olaoye reaffirmed his loyalty to the party, saying he had made notable contributions to the growth of the APC in Kwara State.

The aspirant argued that a fair and transparent primary would likely have produced a different outcome, citing his support base across the constituency.

He therefore called on the APC national leadership to nullify the results of the exercise and organise a fresh primary election under the supervision of the party’s national secretariat.

Olaoye also urged the party to guarantee equal opportunities for all aspirants, proper accreditation and a transparent collation process if a rerun is approved.

He maintained that his appeal was motivated by a desire to preserve justice, fairness and the integrity of the APC.
