Wike-backed PDP says it has uploaded 2027 candidates to INEC portal
The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, says it has uploaded the names of its presidential, vice-presidential and National Assembly candidates for the 2027 general election to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal.
The announcement was made on Sunday by the faction’s National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, who described the move as another step towards ensuring the party participates fully in the 2027 polls.
According to Mohammed, the upload reflects the leadership’s commitment to fulfilling its promise to field candidates for the elections.
He added that the party was awaiting the completion of the upload of its governorship and state House of Assembly candidates, while congratulating members for what he described as a significant milestone.
The PDP has remained divided into two rival factions, with the Wike-backed camp recognised by INEC.
The faction had, on May 26, nominated former Cross River senator Sandy Onor as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
Days later, on May 30, the rival PDP faction led by Kabiru Turaki unveiled former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential flag bearer.
Speaking on July 10, Wike said the PDP would struggle to reclaim the presidency unless it first resolved its prolonged internal crisis.
He argued that political parties seeking electoral victory must address internal disputes and strengthen their grassroots structures before contesting national elections.
