Lagos arrests 27 suspected hoodlums for vandalising newly constructed Festac-Alakija bridge
The Lagos State Government has arrested 27 suspected hoodlums for allegedly vandalising sections of the newly constructed bridge linking Festac Town to Alakija.
The arrests were made during a midnight enforcement operation carried out by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) task force.
Announcing the development on Friday via X, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the operation was part of the state government’s ongoing campaign to enforce Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s directive to eliminate environmental violations along the Lagos-Badagry Transnational Highway.
According to Wahab, enforcement officers discovered extensive vandalism beneath the newly completed bridge during the operation.
He alleged that the suspects had removed iron rods, steel reinforcements, electrical cables and other structural components essential to the stability of the bridge.
The commissioner described the act as a serious threat to public safety, noting that it also undermines government investment in critical infrastructure.
Wahab added that the suspects would be prosecuted in accordance with Lagos State laws.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding public infrastructure, stressing that enforcement operations against vandalism, environmental offences and other criminal activities would continue across the state.
