Urban Renewal: Ondo Govt Moves to Complete Abandoned Complex After 17 Years
The Ondo State Government has reiterated its commitment to completing abandoned projects across the state as part of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s urban renewal drive. A major focus of this effort is the proposed Modern Banquet Complex at Alagbaka, Akure, which was initiated by the administration of former Governor Dr. Olusegun Agagu over 20 years ago but has remained abandoned since 2007.On Thursday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Abiola Olawoye FNSE, FNICE, visited the long-abandoned site located adjacent to the Governor’s Office Complex. He disclosed that the government is currently reviewing the original components of the contract to determine the viability of the project and chart a course for its completion. According to him, the project is part of broader efforts to rid the state of incomplete structures and prevent further waste of public resources.


Engr. Olawoye explained that the recent developments and infrastructure upgrades across the State make it necessary to revisit the banquet complex.


He added that the project, once completed, would contribute significantly to the physical and administrative outlook of the state capital and reflect the vision of the current administration for a more functional and modern urban space.He further revealed that site clearing has already commenced in preparation for an integrity test on the existing structure.
