Gov Aiyedatiwa Declares War on Land Grabbing as Hon. Maxwell Joins Task Force
In a bold move to tackle the menace of land grabbing and illegal property transactions in Ondo State, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has inaugurated the State Task Force on Property Protection and Anti-Land Grabbing. Among the newly appointed members is Hon. Maxwell Adelosoye, Vice Chairman of Ondo South East LCDA, who will represent local government authorities in the committee. The Governor emphasized that the era of fraudulent resale of land, violent land disputes, and “Omo-Onile” extortion is over, announcing strict penalties of up to 21 years in prison for offenders.

Speaking after the inauguration, Hon. Maxwell expressed deep appreciation to Governor Aiyedatiwa for the confidence reposed in him. He reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with fellow task force members to ensure the full enforcement of the law and the protection of community lands. “This initiative is long overdue, and I will do everything within my capacity to support the Governor’s vision of restoring order and justice in land administration across Ondo State,” he stated.

The newly signed law prescribes punishments for various offenses: 10 years imprisonment for land grabbing, 5 years or a ₦5 million fine for illegal occupation, and 21 years for fraudulent property resale. The Governor noted that land ownership is a sensitive issue tied to identity and heritage, and criminal exploitation must be met with swift justice. He charged the Task Force to act without fear or favor and to collaborate with ministries, law enforcement, and traditional institutions.
The inauguration, held in Akure, saw the attendance of top government officials including the Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami; the Attorney-General, Dr. Kayode Ajulo; and other stakeholders. It marked a critical milestone in the administration’s efforts to protect lives, investments, and community heritage across the state.
