Photojournalist Killed by Colleague in Kogi, Suspect Found Dead

The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the murder of a photojournalist, Ayo Aiyepeku, allegedly killed by his colleague and close friend, Adebayo Pelumi, in Lokoja.

According to the police spokesperson, William Ovye-Aya, the incident occurred Tuesday night inside an office complex near the Kogi Government House.

Pelumi allegedly struck Aiyepeku with a blunt object, dismembered his body, and hid the remains in a freezer. He fled the scene but was later found dead in a hotel room the next morning, alongside a suicide note and a bottle of Sniper insecticide.

Police recovered a Hilux vehicle allegedly used by Pelumi and a deep freezer found inside it. His body has been deposited at the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, for autopsy.

Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

The victim’s father, James Aiyepeku, described his son as gentle and hardworking. He appealed to the government and police to help recover his son’s remains and ensure justice is served.
