FULL LIST: Alao-Akala’s properties in Nigeria, UK, US at centre of family dispute
A legal dispute over the estate of former Oyo State governor, Adebayo Alao-Akala, has brought to light a vast portfolio of properties linked to the late politician.
The matter is currently before an Oyo State High Court, where his first daughter, Oluwatoyin Alao-Aderinto, is contesting the management of the estate.
Court filings reveal that Alao-Akala owned numerous assets spread across Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Ghana, including a five-star hotel.
In the suit marked I/443/2024, Aderinto is seeking judicial intervention over how the estate is being administered.
Named as defendants are Oluwakemi Alao-Akala and Olamide Alabi, identified as executors of the estate.
Aderinto told the court she holds both legal and equitable interests as the deceased’s first child. She alleged that some properties had been sold without her knowledge and that plans were underway to dispose of more assets or enter joint venture agreements involving the estate.
She argued that urgent court intervention was necessary to prevent actions that could jeopardise her stake, warning of possible irreversible losses.
The court subsequently restrained the defendants from selling or engaging in transactions involving any of the properties pending the outcome of the case. It also granted an interlocutory injunction and ordered an accelerated hearing.
In addition, Aderinto is seeking a court order for DNA tests involving herself and six others, including a member of the House of Representatives, to establish biological relationships with the late politician. She also requested the exhumation of her father’s remains for the tests, with results to be submitted under seal and only disclosed in court.
The case has been adjourned to April 16, 2026, for a ruling on the application.
Alao-Akala died on January 12, 2022, at the age of 71 in Ogbomoso. Since then, disagreements have persisted over the distribution and management of his estate.
Properties listed in dispute include:
- Residence at Old Bodija Estate, Ibadan
- Five-star hotel in Ghana
- Multiple properties in Ogbomoso, including residential buildings, filling stations, and farmland
- Buildings and plots across Ibadan, including Bodija, Dugbe, Agodi GRA, and Samonda
