NiMet Warns of Thunderstorms, Strong Winds Across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has issued a fresh weather alert, warning Nigerians to brace for thunderstorms and strong winds in several parts of the country.

According to the forecast, thunderstorms with light to moderate rainfall are expected across parts of the North-Central and Southern regions, including states like Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Rivers, and Cross River.

The agency also predicted isolated thunderstorms in areas such as Kogi, Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, and Kwara, while the northern region will experience mostly sunny conditions with patches of clouds.

NiMet warned that strong winds may precede the thunderstorms, urging residents to take precautions, including securing loose objects and avoiding outdoor exposure during heavy rain.

Motorists have also been advised to avoid driving in heavy downpours, while residents are cautioned to stay away from tall trees and disconnect electrical appliances during storms to prevent accidents.

The agency added that high temperatures and humidity levels may cause discomfort, advising Nigerians to stay hydrated and wear breathable clothing.
