GOVERNOR AIYEDATIWA DRIVING ONDO’S ECONOMIC RENAISSANCE THROUGH VISIONARY LEADERSHIP AND GLOBAL ALLIANCES
By Victor Adedeji
In the vast landscape of governance, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa stands as a lodestar, guiding Ondo State on a path of economic rebirth. “The wise man plants trees in whose shade he knows he will never sit,” the Governor reflects, embodying his commitment to responsible, future-focused leadership. His administration’s reduction of the state’s domestic debt by 77 percent in the first quarter of 2024 is a testament to this vision, offering Ondo a lighter financial burden and a path to sustainable growth.
Determined to position Ondo as a magnet for foreign investment, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasizes the state’s wealth in both resources and potential. Welcoming Mr. Sun Deshi, the Deputy Mayor of Linyi City in Shandong, China, he described a future where mutually beneficial partnerships create prosperity. “A single tree does not make a forest,” he said, underscoring the power of collaboration as he reaffirmed the state’s agreements with China, particularly around the Ondo-Linyi Industry Park in Ore. This project, a legacy of the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, continues to expand, carrying the promise of industrialization and employment for the people of Ondo.
Deputy Mayor Deshi, representing Linyi, echoed this spirit of unity. “When many stones come together, they form a mountain,” he observed, expressing China’s eagerness to contribute to Ondo’s growth in agriculture, construction, and technology. Ms. Yan Yuqing, Consul-General of China in Lagos, pledged further economic ties, calling Ondo “a fertile ground for dreams to take root,” as she committed to accelerating Chinese investments.
Aiyedatiwa’s administration is also breathing life into long-dormant industries, guided by the conviction that “every life restored to purpose is a light rekindled.” His government is actively working to revive companies like the Ifon Ceramic Company and Okitipupa Oil Palm Limited, aiming to create employment and stimulate growth. New negotiations with investors for projects such as the Ondo Seaport and bitumen exploration reflect his administration’s philosophy that “vision without action is but a dream.” The development of the Ondo Seaport and the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, which will pass through the seaport corridor, promise to make Ondo a major player in bitumen and logistics, opening a gateway for exports and positioning the state as a trade powerhouse.

Alhaji Musa Ibrahim Mantu, Chairman of Owena Bitumen Exploration Nigeria Limited, captured the transformative potential of this venture. “Great works are performed not by strength, but by perseverance,” he said, committing to harnessing advanced bitumen technology and world-class expertise for the state.
Recognizing that a thriving economy is built from the ground up, Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration has also disbursed N220 million to artisans and small business owners, offering them the resources to grow and succeed. “Empowering individuals is like lighting a candle in the dark,” he shared, as he handed out symbolic cheques, highlighting how small businesses are the foundation of a resilient economy.
In a final testament to his forward-looking leadership, the Ondo State Government is preparing to host the Global Entrepreneurship Summit, a landmark event poised to attract investment from across the globe. “The door that we open for others is the door that leads us all forward,” the Governor observed, emphasizing that the summit will not only bring prosperity to Ondo but also place it firmly on the map of global economic opportunity.
Governor Aiyedatiwa’s actions embody the wisdom of an old adage: “A society grows great when its leaders work for a future they may not live to see.” Through strategic debt reduction, revitalization of industries, support for small businesses, and global partnerships, his administration is laying the foundation for a prosperous Ondo State, setting a legacy that will endure for generations.
