Interior Minister, Tunji-Ojo Orders Probe Into Alleged Criminal Activities at Okere Correctional Centre

The Minister of Interior, Hon. (Dr.) Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has ordered an immediate and thorough investigation into allegations of criminal activities within the Okere Correctional Centre in Warri, Delta State.

This directive follows recent media reports exposing alleged misconduct and indiscipline within the facility.

The statement was signed by Alao Babatunde, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Minister of Interior, reaffirming the government’s stance on ensuring justice and accountability in Nigeria’s correctional facilities.

In a statement issued, the minister strongly condemned the alleged acts, emphasizing that any form of corruption, misconduct, or indiscipline within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) would not be tolerated.

He assured Nigerians that any officer found culpable would face the full weight of the law.

“I will not allow indiscipline to fester under my nose. Any officer found wanting will face the full weight of the law. The leadership of the NCoS must provide explanations,” Tunji-Ojo said.

The minister reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability, and integrity in the administration of justice within Nigeria’s correctional system.

He stressed that the investigation would be comprehensive, with no room for cover-ups or favoritism.

“We take these allegations seriously and will not tolerate any form of misconduct within our correctional facilities,” he added.

As part of efforts to ensure a credible investigation, the minister called on the public to provide any useful information that could aid in uncovering the truth.

He assured Nigerians that appropriate measures would be taken to restore discipline and order in the correctional system.
