Lagos Police Restrict Movement Ahead of LG Elections

The Lagos State Police Command has announced a restriction on movement across the state on Saturday, July 12, to ensure the smooth conduct of the local government elections.

In a statement on Wednesday, Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the command, said movement will be restricted from 3:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on all roads and waterways.

Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh has ordered heavy deployment of security personnel across the state, with measures in place to guarantee a peaceful and orderly electoral process.

The police also banned the use of covered number plates, sirens, and escorts near polling units and collation centres.

Only essential service vehicles such as ambulances, fire trucks, and security patrol vans under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) will be allowed movement.

Medical workers on emergency duty, accredited officials of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), journalists, and election observers with official identification will be exempt from the restrictions.

The police warned that anyone found at polling units without LASIEC accreditation tags would be arrested and prosecuted in line with the Electoral Act.
