Pro-Wike Faction Takes Over PDP National Secretariat Amid Leadership Crisis
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has taken control of the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, as the crisis within the party deepens.
The group announced Muhammed Abdulrahman as Acting National Chairman, following the suspension of Samuel Anyanwu and other officials allied with Wike by the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Umar Damagum.
In a swift counteraction, the Wike camp suspended Damagum and several key NWC members, naming Abdulrahman as the party’s new acting chairman.
Speaking at the PDP’s FCT office before moving to the secretariat, Abdulrahman said his leadership would focus on healing divisions within the party and restoring its credibility.
“Our once glorious party has been reduced to a shadow of itself due to leadership failures and endless defections,” he said. “I have accepted this role to rebuild, reconcile, and reposition the PDP as a law-abiding and formidable opposition.”
Shortly after his address, Abdulrahman and his supporters entered the Wadata Plaza, where he reportedly held his first meeting with Anyanwu and other loyalists.
Security operatives were stationed around the premises to prevent clashes between supporters of both factions, with at least 10 police patrol vans sighted at the secretariat.
The takeover marks another turning point in the ongoing power tussle within the PDP, as the party struggles to regain unity and relevance ahead of future elections.
