‘For dignity and inclusion’ — NYSC to unveil new protocol for corps members with disabilities
The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) says it will adopt a distinct protocol for handling corps members with disabilities.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Caroline Embu, director of information and public relations at the NYSC, said Olakunle Nafiu, director general (DG) of the scheme, spoke at the 2026 batch ‘A’ pre-orientation workshop in Jos, Plateau state.
Nafiu said the protocol will be implemented for PWDs starting from the orientation course till the completion of their service year.
He said the initiative is part of the scheme’s welfare strategies for corps members, focusing on dignity, inclusion and equal opportunity.
“It underscores our commitment to leaving no one behind and positioning the NYSC as a humane, progressive, and nationally responsive institution,” the statement reads.
“Equally crucial is using emotional intelligence and showing empathy in all interactions with corps members and camp officials.”
Nafiu maintained that the orientation course must continuously reflect national realities and global best practices.
“It is in this context that the pre-orientation workshop becomes essential because it will analyse emerging challenges and develop practical improvements that will genuinely enhance the National Service experiences and effectively address modern realities,” he said.
The NYSC DG also urged participants to develop creative ideas that can positively affect the corps members’ operational efficiency and institutional intelligence.
“We expect technology-driven engagements and innovative contributions to transform the Orientation Course into a dynamic launchpad for transformative national service that would prepare corps members not just to serve, but to lead, innovate, and make a significant impact on national development,” he added.
