Acting IGP Disu Meets Tinubu at State House for First Official Engagement
Olatunji Disu, the acting inspector general of police, arrived at the State House on Tuesday for his first official meeting with President Bola Tinubu following his appointment.
Disu entered the Presidential Villa at about 3 pm ahead of a brief ceremony where he is expected to be formally decorated with his new rank.
Earlier, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga announced that Tinubu accepted the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun, who stepped down citing pressing family issues.
After the decoration, a separate handing over ceremony is expected at the police force headquarters in Abuja, where Egbetokun will officially transfer leadership.
In line with the provisions of the Nigeria Police Council under the Police Act 2020, the president is expected to convene a council meeting to formally consider Disu’s appointment before forwarding his name to the Senate for confirmation.
Before his elevation, Disu served as assistant inspector general of police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department annex in Alagbon, Lagos. Since joining the police in 1992, he has held several key roles, including commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos, head of the intelligence response team, commissioner of police in Rivers State, and AIG in charge of the special protection unit in the Federal Capital Territory.
