Many feared dead as explosion hits Kwara community
A suspected bomb explosion has struck Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, with several people reportedly feared dead.
According to a source who spoke with TheCable, a driver identified as Zuberu was among those affected. The source also said a woman sustained injuries and was rushed to Ilorin on the directive of the Kaiama LGA chairman.
Efforts to reach Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
No group has claimed responsibility for the incident. However, residents suspect the improvised explosive device (IED) may have been detonated by suspected Boko Haram members.
The incident comes weeks after a deadly attack in the area, where at least 75 residents were killed and several homes burnt in Woro and neighbouring Nuku communities in Kaiama LGA.
Following that attack, President Bola Tinubu ordered the deployment of an army battalion to the affected communities.
