Akure APC Leaders Seek Governorship Slot After Aiyedatiwa

Leaders and elders of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State have backed calls for an indigenous governor to emerge after the tenure of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

The party leaders reaffirmed their loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Aiyedatiwa in a communiqué issued at the end of a stakeholders’ meeting held in Akure over the weekend under the leadership of Prince Tony Ala.

The communiqué, signed by Prince Tony Ala alongside other party leaders including Sunday Adejuyigbe, Ifedayo Ologometa, Hon. Dele Faboro, Hon. Idowu Otetubi, and Hon. Femi Bello, stressed the need for equity, fairness, and political inclusiveness.

Other signatories include Elder Micheal Olusanya Ojuola, Hon. Ifedayo Adewole, Hon. Oluranti Fakinlede, Hon. Sunday Faleye, Hon. Muyiwa Adebayo (MAO), Hon. Enas Mohammed, Hon. Francis Belonwu, Hon. Rev. Abisola Oluwatayo, and Mr Ayo Alabi, among others.

They argued that Akure, as the state capital, deserves the opportunity to produce the next governor, noting that the demand reflects the aspirations of the people and supports balanced representation across the state.

“The leaders resolved to strategically position a qualified indigene of Akure for the next governorship election after the tenure of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and to work collectively towards victory,” the communiqué stated.

The leaders also endorsed Hon. Oluwafemi Fadairo for the Akure North/Akure South Federal House of Representatives seat, and Hon. Adeola Rosemary Fynch for the Ondo State House of Assembly, Akure South Constituency I, citing their loyalty, grassroots connection, and capacity to represent the people effectively.

They rejected the idea of automatic tickets, insisting that only credible and widely acceptable aspirants should emerge to represent the party, particularly in the Akure axis, in the forthcoming general elections.

The leaders commended President Tinubu’s leadership, describing his administration as visionary and reform-driven, and expressed confidence in his policies to drive economic recovery and sustainable growth.

They also credited the President with facilitating key development projects in Akure and its environs, including the upgrade of the State Specialists Hospital to the Federal University of Technology, Akure Teaching Hospital, road infrastructure projects, and the approval of an aviation college campus.

The stakeholders pledged to mobilise grassroots support to secure massive votes for Tinubu’s re-election in the 2027 general election.

They passed a vote of confidence in Governor Aiyedatiwa, praising his leadership style, inclusive governance, and efforts to maintain stability within the party.

The leaders also commended the successful conduct of APC congresses at ward, local government, and state levels, noting that the exercise strengthened party unity.

Reiterating their support for the current administration, they pledged continued cooperation to ensure sustained development at both state and federal levels.

They urged party members to remain united and committed to the party’s ideals ahead of future political contests, expressing confidence that cohesion within the party would boost its chances in upcoming elections.

However, they warned against actions capable of undermining party unity, stressing that divisive activities or internal sabotage would not be tolerated.

The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the party at the grassroots and maintaining cohesion among members.
