Tinubu seeks Senate confirmation of Joseph Tegbe as minister of power

President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to confirm the nomination of Joseph Tegbe as a minister of the federal republic, with a portfolio in the power sector.

The request was conveyed in a letter read during Tuesday’s plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Citing Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), Tinubu urged lawmakers to give the nomination swift consideration.

“I am pleased to forward for confirmation by the Senate the nomination of Mr Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the letter stated, adding that the president looks forward to an expeditious review of the request.

Akpabio, in response, assured that the Senate would act promptly, referring the nomination to the committee of the whole for immediate screening.

Earlier, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga had announced Tegbe’s nomination, noting that it had been transmitted to the National Assembly in line with constitutional provisions.

Onanuga described Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, as a seasoned fiscal and economic reform expert with more than three decades of experience across both public and private sectors. He highlighted Tegbe’s previous role as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led initiatives in fiscal policy reform, governance, and institutional transformation.

The nomination follows the resignation of former power minister Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State.
