NYSC to blacklist organisations that fail to provide corps members with accommodation, transport
The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Olakunle Nafiu, has warned that organisations that fail to provide accommodation and transportation for corps members posted to them risk being blacklisted.
Nafiu issued the warning during a stakeholders’ workshop in Lokoja, Kogi State, where discussions centred on improving the welfare of corps members serving in organisations across the state.
He reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to the security and welfare of corps members and appealed to state and local governments, as well as other stakeholders, to strengthen their support for the NYSC scheme.
The NYSC DG also urged corps members to prioritise their personal safety by promptly reporting suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
He advised them to remain disciplined, dedicated to their responsibilities and avoid any form of misconduct throughout their service year.
Nafiu further encouraged corps members to take advantage of the post-camp Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, saying it offers an opportunity to develop practical skills before completing national service.
He urged them to identify business opportunities within their host communities and begin building sustainable sources of income while still in service.
According to him, the service year should also serve as a period for learning sound financial management through prudent use of resources.
Speaking at the event, the NYSC Coordinator in Kogi State, Tochi Chris-Moneke, commended the director-general for the visit, describing it as a demonstration of his commitment to the welfare and security of corps members and NYSC personnel.
