Newly Approved 3km Walkway to Boost Livelihoods in Riverine Communities – Works Commissioner
The Ondo State Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Ayorinde Abiola Olawoye, FNSE, FNICE, has said that the newly approved 3km walkway project by the Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, will significantly improve the livelihoods of people living in the state’s riverine communities.
Speaking during a media interview with journalists, Olawoye described the project as another demonstration of Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to ensuring that every part of Ondo State enjoys the dividends of purposeful governance, regardless of its geographical location.
The Commissioner expressed appreciation to the Governor for approving the project, noting that the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure will supervise its execution to ensure quality delivery.
He disclosed that the walkway has been redesigned with an increased width to accommodate movement of tricycles(Keke Napep) while its structural design will incorporate 250 mm diameter steel cased reinforced concrete piles, reinforced concrete primary and secondary beams to guarantee durability, safety and resilience.
Olawoye further assured residents that the project, like other completed and ongoing infrastructure initiatives across the state, would be executed strictly in line with global engineering best practices and established quality standards.
He appealed to residents of the benefiting communities to cooperate with the contractors and government officials throughout the construction period, stressing that their support would facilitate the timely completion of the project. He also urged them to protect the infrastructure upon completion, emphasizing that it is a public asset designed to improve connectivity, stimulate economic activities, and enhance the overall quality of life in the riverine areas.
