Kwara State has recorded another impressive feat in mathematics after two siblings from Hill City School, Ilorin, emerged winners in different categories at the 62nd Annual Conference of the Mathematics Association of Nigeria (MAN).

The conference, held at Osun State University, Osogbo, saw Oladiran Daniel emerge as the winner of the Primary Category, while his sister, Oladiran Mary, clinched the Junior Secondary Category.

Mary’s achievement was further recognised as she was named the Overall Best Female Student at the conference, adding another distinction to her growing list of academic accomplishments.

Her latest success also continues a remarkable run at the MAN conference. At the 2023 edition held at the University of Benin, Mary won the Primary Category and was also named the Overall Best Female Student, making her latest performance another significant milestone for both her and Kwara State.

The siblings’ outstanding performances have further highlighted the growing strength of mathematics education and young academic talent in Kwara State.

The MAN mathematics competition is conducted through three stages, beginning at the local level, followed by the state level, before culminating in the national competition held during the association’s annual conference.

The annual conference, which runs from August 31 to September 4, brings together mathematics educators, students and other stakeholders from across the country to promote the teaching and learning of mathematics while identifying and nurturing exceptional young talents.

The Osogbo ceremony also attracted the presence of the Ataoja of Osogbo and a representative of the Osun State Governor, alongside other education stakeholders and participants from across Nigeria.

The latest performance by the Oladiran siblings is expected to further strengthen Kwara’s reputation for producing outstanding students in mathematics and other academic competitions.
