AKCCIMA Congratulates Nigerians on 66th Independence Anniversary, Commends Tinubu’s Economic Reforms, Calls for Nationwide Expansion of CNG Bus Programme and Improved Food Security Measures

The Akure Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (AKCCIMA) has congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of the nation’s 66th Independence Anniversary, describing the celebration as an opportunity for reflection, renewed commitment to nation-building, and collective determination to overcome economic challenges.

In a statement issued by its President, Barrister Kehinde Ige, AKCCIMA commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for pursuing economic reforms aimed at repositioning the Nigerian economy for long-term growth and sustainability.
According to the Chamber, while recent economic reforms have imposed adjustment costs on businesses and households, they are intended to address structural issues that have hindered economic development over the years.

“Nigeria’s private sector remains the engine of economic growth, and we recognize the efforts of the Federal Government in implementing reforms designed to strengthen public finances, encourage investment, promote local production, and improve economic competitiveness,” the statement noted.

AKCCIMA particularly applauded the Federal Government’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) transportation initiative, describing it as a practical intervention capable of reducing transportation costs, easing inflationary pressures, and supporting environmental sustainability.

The Chamber, however, urged the Federal Government to ensure that the benefits of the programme reach every part of the country.

“The deployment of CNG buses and supporting infrastructure should not be limited to a few locations. Nigerians in all states deserve equal access to the economic relief and opportunities that the programme offers. We therefore call for the accelerated rollout of CNG buses, refuelling stations, and conversion centres across the federation,” the Chamber stated.

AKCCIMA further called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts aimed at improving food availability and affordability across the country.

The Chamber observed that rising food prices remain one of the greatest challenges confronting households and businesses, stressing the need for deliberate investments in agriculture, rural infrastructure, food processing, storage facilities, and support for farmers.

“A strong economy must be supported by a strong agricultural sector. Policies that increase food production, reduce post-harvest losses, improve market access, and lower the cost of essential food items will directly improve the welfare of citizens and stimulate economic activities,” the statement added.

The Chamber also appealed to governments at all levels to continue prioritizing critical infrastructure such as electricity, roads, security, water supply, and access to affordable credit for businesses, particularly small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs).

AKCCIMA reaffirmed its commitment to promoting trade, industry, investment, entrepreneurship, and sustainable economic development in Akure, the state capital, and its environs .

As the nation celebrates its 66th Independence Anniversary, the Chamber called on Nigerians to remain hopeful, united, and supportive of efforts aimed at building a stronger and more prosperous nation.

“The challenges before us are significant, but so are the opportunities. Through collaboration between government, the private sector, and citizens, Nigeria can achieve inclusive growth and shared prosperity,” the statement concluded.
