ADC Faction Ousts David Mark-Led Leadership, Backs Kachikwu for 2027 Presidency
A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dissolved the national working committee (NWC) led by former Senate President David Mark and endorsed Dumebi Kachikwu as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The decision was reached during the faction’s national convention and presidential primary held in Abuja on Sunday, where delegates adopted Kachikwu through a voice vote.
Following the dissolution of the David Mark-led leadership, the group immediately inaugurated a new set of national officers to oversee the party’s affairs.
The newly constituted executives include Kingsley Oggah as chairman of the board of trustees, Abdulkadir Bashir as national chairman, Johnny Derek as national secretary, Kennedy O. Odion as national treasurer, Amirigoye as national financial secretary, and Chris Ugwu as national legal adviser, among others.
Speaking after receiving the party flag, Kachikwu said Nigeria was at a crucial turning point, citing insecurity, unemployment, economic difficulties, and widening social divisions as major concerns facing the country.
“Nigeria belongs to all of us and must not be controlled by a few privileged interests,” he said.
He also pointed to the increasing migration of middle-class Nigerians abroad as evidence of growing dissatisfaction with prevailing conditions.
Kachikwu described the ADC as a viable alternative capable of rebuilding trust and restoring hope among citizens.
Earlier, Kingsley Oggah described the convention as a significant moment for the faction, praising members for remaining steadfast despite internal party challenges.
Meanwhile, Abdulkadir Bashir, the newly elected national chairman, called on members to respect the party’s constitution and avoid actions that could deepen divisions within the ADC.
He also appealed to aggrieved members to return and work together to strengthen the party ahead of future elections.
