Atiku after meeting Amaechi: Nigeria needs urgent rescue from hardship, insecurity
Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has said patriotic Nigerians must work together to rescue the country from what he described as “drift and despair.”
Atiku made the remark after a visit to former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, at his Abuja residence on Thursday.
The former vice president had earlier urged unity within the ADC after securing the party’s presidential ticket for the 2027 election, stressing the need for a united opposition against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a post shared on X following the meeting, Atiku said discussions with Amaechi focused on the country’s worsening economic conditions, insecurity, and the responsibility of citizens committed to national progress.
“This afternoon, I visited my brother and compatriot, former governor of Rivers State and ex-minister of transportation, Chief Rotimi Amaechi, at his Abuja residence,” Atiku wrote.
He added that beyond exchanging pleasantries, both leaders held frank discussions on Nigeria’s challenges and the need to find solutions to improve the country’s direction.
According to him, the conversation centred on growing economic hardship, insecurity, and the role of patriotic Nigerians in helping the nation recover from its current difficulties.
Atiku also congratulated Amaechi on his birthday and jokingly referenced Arsenal’s recent English Premier League title success, noting that the former minister, a devoted supporter of the club, received the banter warmly.
He further revealed that Amaechi apologised for not being able to prepare Fisherman Soup during the visit, but promised the delicacy when they meet again.
