Soldier Arrested After Accidental Shooting of Colleague in Borno
A Nigerian Army soldier attached to the 25 Brigade has been arrested after allegedly accidentally discharging his weapon and injuring a fellow soldier in Borno State.
The incident reportedly occurred around 6 a.m. on Friday at Sierra 7, a military defensive position in Damboa Local Government Area of the state.
According to counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, citing military sources, the soldier negligently fired his weapon within the military facility, resulting in a gunshot injury to a colleague.
The wounded soldier was said to have received immediate medical attention before being evacuated to a military field ambulance facility for further treatment.
Military authorities subsequently disarmed and detained the soldier involved while investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Army also reiterated the importance of strict compliance with weapons handling procedures and safety protocols to prevent similar occurrences in operational areas.
Investigations are ongoing, while disciplinary measures may be taken depending on the outcome of the inquiry.
