New JAMB Registrar Segun Aina Unveils Five-Year Reform Agenda, Seven Tech Initiatives
The newly appointed Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Segun Aina, has unveiled a five-year strategic plan aimed at transforming the examination body into a more efficient, transparent and technology-driven institution by 2031.
Aina, a professor of computer engineering, officially assumed office on Monday, succeeding Professor Ishaq Oloyede, whose two five-year terms ended last Friday after a decade in office.
President Bola Tinubu appointed Aina as JAMB’s substantive registrar on May 21, making the then 39-year-old the youngest person to lead the examination board.
According to a statement issued on Monday by JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, the reform agenda is titled “JAMB 2031: Building Trust, Reducing Trauma.”
The registrar said the roadmap is designed to consolidate the achievements recorded under his predecessor while positioning JAMB as Africa’s most trusted and innovative admissions and assessment institution.
Aina pledged to build on the existing foundation through innovation, stronger institutional systems and improved service delivery.
Project 2:5:7
The development plan, covering 2026 to 2031, is anchored on what Aina described as “Project 2:5:7.” The framework consists of two strategic objectives, five institutional pillars and seven flagship initiatives intended to strengthen the board’s operations through technology, accountability and stakeholder confidence.
He said the agenda aligns with JAMB’s statutory responsibility of providing fair, credible and merit-based access to tertiary education through transparent registration, secure examinations and equitable placement of qualified candidates.
Five strategic pillars
Aina explained that the reform agenda is built on five key pillars:
- Integrity
- Service
- Governance
- Technology
- Partnership
According to him, the integrity pillar will focus on strengthening public confidence through internationally recognised standards, including ISO 27001 information security certification, independent technology audits and transparent systems that promote accountability.
He added that JAMB would also improve customer service through proactive engagement while enhancing governance with stronger performance monitoring, better contract management, operational resilience and greater internal accountability.
The registrar said the board plans to expand its digital infrastructure by deploying scalable technology platforms to improve decision-making and service delivery, while also strengthening collaboration with financial institutions.
Seven flagship initiatives
Aina listed seven major initiatives that will drive the reform agenda:
- Independent review of JAMB’s technology infrastructure.
- Attainment of ISO 27001 information security certification.
- Development of a unified JAMB mobile application.
- Strategic communication and brand repositioning.
- Creation of a unified customer service platform.
- Full transition to a paperless digital administration system.
- Improved staff welfare and capacity development.
He stressed that although technology would remain central to JAMB’s transformation, the workforce would remain its greatest strength.
Aina urged staff members to embrace innovation, professionalism and teamwork, noting that lasting institutions are built on shared values and collective commitment.
He reaffirmed his commitment to building systems that will endure beyond individual office holders, strengthen public trust and establish JAMB as a global model for technology-driven examination and admissions administration.
