Ondo Police Arrest Suspected Armed Robber, Recover Pistol, Four Live Cartridges in Owo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man suspected of armed robbery and recovered a cut-to-size pistol and four live cartridges from him during a stop-and-search operation in Owo.

The suspect, identified as Ogunmola Oluwasola ‘M’, a resident of Idasen Street, Owo, was arrested by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad along the Owo–Ute Road at about 5:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026.

According to the Police, the operatives were conducting routine patrol and stop-and-search operations along the route when they intercepted the suspect for a search. A cut-to-size pistol and four rounds of live ammunition were subsequently recovered from his possession.

The suspect was taken into custody, while the recovered firearm and ammunition were secured as exhibits. Police detectives have obtained his statement and commenced further investigation to determine the source of the weapon, its intended use and whether the suspect has any connection with robbery, kidnapping or other criminal activities in Owo and neighbouring communities.

The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, psc, mnips, mspsp, commended the operatives for their vigilance and commitment to proactive policing.

The Commissioner said the Command would sustain intelligence-led patrols, stop-and-search operations and other security measures across the state, particularly along major highways and identified crime-prone areas.

CP Ohagwu also warned individuals involved in the illegal possession or trafficking of firearms that the Police and other security agencies would continue to pursue them, stressing that criminal elements would not be allowed to threaten the peace and security of residents.

The suspect remains in Police custody as investigation continues to establish his possible links to other criminal activities and identify any other persons who may be involved.

The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist ongoing efforts to prevent crime and protect lives and property across Ondo State.
