Fubara Reflects on Turbulent but Impactful Two Years as Rivers Governor
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, on Thursday marked the second anniversary of his administration with a reflective address, acknowledging the political turbulence that has shaped his tenure but affirming his commitment to progress, unity, and transformational leadership.
Addressing the people of Rivers State in a statewide broadcast, Fubara described the journey since his May 29, 2023 inauguration as “challenging but progressive and impactful,” noting that despite political headwinds, his administration has remained focused on delivering the dividends of democracy.
“In the past two years, our political landscape has undergone significant changes,” the governor said. “Despite the turbulence, I have remained steadfast and focused, guided by the oath I took and the solemn promise I made to always put Rivers State first.”
Fubara, who came into office following a decisive electoral victory in the March 18, 2023 polls, acknowledged that political instability had, at times, slowed his administration’s pace. However, he pointed to modest but significant achievements in key sectors including healthcare, education, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and human capital development.
“These achievements would not have been possible without your unwavering support and hope in the brighter future we all envision for Rivers State,” the governor said, extending his gratitude to the people for their resilience and cooperation.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to peace, security, and socio-economic development, Fubara expressed optimism about the state’s future, pledging to consolidate on the gains made so far and push forward with his reform agenda.
“We are at a crucial point in our journey, where difficult decisions must be made,” he said. “Be assured that every step we take will be guided by your best interests and the enduring good of Rivers State.”
The governor made a passionate appeal for reconciliation and unity, calling on all stakeholders to move beyond the political divisions of the past and focus on a shared vision for the state.
“To those still carrying the weight of our recent political struggles, I appeal to you, let us turn the page, come together, and focus on our shared goal of progress and unity. The time to rebuild and rise is now,” he urged.
Fubara’s anniversary message comes amid continued political tension within the state’s ruling establishment. However, his address struck a tone of healing and forward-looking leadership.
“I look forward to working hand in hand with all of you to build a State we can all be proud of: a Rivers State that stands as a model for the rest of Nigeria,” he concluded.
The governor’s message was widely seen as an olive branch to political rivals and a reassurance to citizens of his commitment to stability, development, and inclusive governance.
