FEC Approves N13bn for Lagos-Ogun Transmission Project, \$34m for Transformers
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved N13 billion for right-of-way compensation under the Lagos-Ogun transmission project and \$34 million for the purchase and installation of high-capacity transformers.
Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu said the transmission project, valued at \$238 million, is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to improve electricity supply to major industrial clusters in Lagos.
The N13 billion will compensate property owners and communities affected by transmission line routes. Adelabu said the project will provide stable electricity to industrial estates, boosting economic growth and job creation.
The \$34 million transformer upgrade will deliver 12 new transformer units, including 150MVA, 100MVA, 60MVA, and 30MVA capacities, along with an additional N5.2 billion for related expenses. These will replace obsolete equipment, improve voltage stability, and support new transmission capacity.
Adelabu noted that parts of the national grid have been in use for over 50 years, stressing the need for routine maintenance and timely replacements. He described the approvals as part of the Tinubu administration’s broader strategy to eliminate transmission bottlenecks, reduce system collapses, and ensure reliable electricity supply.
