Abducted Kwara road workers released after weeks in captivity

Seven road construction workers abducted in December 2025 from a Kwara State government project have regained their freedom after spending weeks in captivity.

The workers were kidnapped on December 15 while carrying out construction work along the Sabaja–Owa-Onire road in Isin Local Government Area of the state.

The release was confirmed on Monday in Ilorin by Olajide Abolarin, press secretary to the Kwara State Ministry of Works.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Abdulquawy Olododo, said the workers were freed through coordinated efforts involving the state government and security agencies.

Olododo described the development as a major boost to public safety in Kwara State and commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for demonstrating strong political will in addressing insecurity.

He disclosed that two of the released victims are engineers employed by the Kwara State Ministry of Works.

Olododo expressed appreciation to the governor, security agencies, and all individuals who supported the victims and their families during the period of captivity.
