UNICAL suspends nine students over exam malpractice, result forgery

The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has suspended nine students for examination malpractice and submission of forged academic results.

The decision was taken at the institution’s 252nd senate meeting after deliberations on reports presented by the ad hoc senate committee on examination malpractice and the senate students’ disciplinary committee.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the registrar, Chukwuka Icha, said five of the affected students were found guilty of examination malpractice, while four others were sanctioned for presenting forged results to the university.

According to the statement, the students will serve a two academic session suspension, effective from the 2024/2025 academic year.

Among those suspended are five students from the department of pharmacy: Akwuba Enestina and Udom Iboro (300 level), Nwankwo Daniel (200 level), and Ore Israel and Chisom Ejafa (500 level).

Others affected include Lazarus Ebogo of the department of home economics, Ele Godwin of zoology, Ofem Patrick of science laboratory technology, and Makailu Pamilo of linguistics and communication studies.

The university management has directed heads of departments, deans of the affected faculties, and the acting chief security officer to ensure strict compliance with the suspension order.
