Ex commissioner kidnapped, one policeman killed in Delta Church
Kidnappers on Tuesday evening went on a rampage at the King Jesus Church located off DBS Road in Asaba killing a policeman who was providing security at the church, while also abducting the former Delta commissioner for technical education Mrs Joan Onyarmachi.
Eyewitnesses report that the kidnappers, who were heavily armed, stormed the church premises and opened fire on the policemen, killing one of them instantly before proceeding to abduct Ada Anioma Joan Onyemaechi, a prominent member of the community.
The motive behind her abduction is still unknown, but sources suggest that it may be related to a ransom demand while others blamed it on politics. The incident has sent shockwaves down the community, with many residents expressing outrage and condemnation.
The Delta police spokesperson Edafe Bright when contacted, confirmed the incident, while also saying the police have launched an investigation into the incident and are working to track down the kidnappers and rescue the abducted victim. The former commissioner for technical education had two months ago resigned her appointment, saying she is stepping down because her younger brother is vying to return as the chairman of Aniocha North local government where she hails from.
