Edo election: Civil society calls for peace amidst tension

In the wake of recent tension in Edo state following the outcome of Saturday election, a civil society group is appealing to stakeholders in the state to embrace peace.

Life anchor international development foundation says in commemoration of international day of peace the need to embrace peaceful coexistence is non-negotiable.

The group says the International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly. Two decades later, in 2001, the General Assembly unanimously voted to designate the Day as a period of non-violence and cease-fire.

The executive Director life anchor international development foundation Simon Agada says the Uniqueness of the Theme: for this year 2024 edition “CULTIVATING A CULTURE OF PEACE” is apt, very timely, and a clarion call on Humanity for sober reflection.

Agada called on all and sundry to return to self in a deep sober reflection; to cautiously cultivate a culture of peace, especially at the Family levels, Traditional and Religious Institutions taking responsibilities to Cultivate the Culture of Peace deliberately.

Its high time the Political elites show greater commitment to peace building and its sustenance because most often the Political Elites are fingered or blamed to be responsible for the numerous societal woes & Lamentations.
