‘Come to Our Aid, Fix Our Road,’ Ogbagi Youths Plead with Ondo Government, Federal Ministries
The state of Ogbagi Road has reached a critical point, with its deteriorating condition and the unrestricted movement of heavy-duty vehicles resulting in numerous accidents and loss of lives.
The tragic incident on January 14, 2025, which claimed four lives, has once again highlighted the urgent need for intervention.
Witnesses recounted how a tipper overloaded with gravel, descending from Ikare at the Power House area, lost control due to the damaged terrain. The vehicle collided with a motorcyclist, popularly known as Principal, who had stopped to allow his passengers to alight.

Tragically, the motorcyclist, his two passengers, and a baby lost their lives at the scene. This heartbreaking incident mirrors a similar tragedy in January 2024, when a young boy was crushed by a heavy-duty vehicle at Egako Quarters. Despite these repeated losses, no significant action has been taken to prevent such occurrences.
Ogbagi Road, a vital connection for residents and businesses linking Irun Akoko, Ese Akoko, and neighboring Ekiti towns to Ikare, has become almost unpassable.
Deep potholes, eroded surfaces, and poor drainage have made it a hazardous route for all road users. Despite persistent cries for help from the community, no substantial efforts have been made to repair the road or regulate the movement of heavy-duty vehicles that exacerbate the damage.
Community leaders and advocacy groups, including The Good Governance Group (3G), have expressed frustration over the continued neglect of this critical infrastructure.
Residents have lamented that the road, once a symbol of connectivity and progress, has turned into a death trap, threatening lives and livelihoods.
The people of Ogbagi are pleading with Ondo State Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to intervene urgently.
Immediate rehabilitation of the road, regulation of heavy-duty vehicle movement, and implementation of safety measures such as signage, speed bumps, and proper lighting are essential.
This tragedy should serve as a clarion call for immediate action to prevent further loss of lives and ensure the safety of all road users.
