A 19-year-old boy commits suicide in Ogun

A 19-year-old boy from Afio village in Ogun State has been confirmed dead after allegedly taking his own life, police say.

Identified as Sunday Moses, the secondary school leaver was reportedly seeking a location with better mobile network reception. Before his disappearance, he told his 47-year-old brother that he would find a spot with improved signal strength for a phone call.

Moses was later found hanging from a tree in a secluded rocky area of the village. His elder brother, John Egbe, discovered his body after several hours of searching, according to Ogun State Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola.

Authorities noted that Moses had left his home in Ogungbade village early on February 10, 2025, and had recently been coping with the loss of his mother, who had not yet been interred in their hometown of Oju, Benue State.

Police have since secured the scene and collected photographic evidence as part of the ongoing investigation. Moses’ body has now been released to his family, who plan to conduct burial rites in accordance with their traditional customs.
