INEC Confirms Progress on Recall Process for Kogi Central Senator
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed receiving additional details from petitioners seeking to recall the Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District. The Commission stated that the petitioners have now provided their contact address, telephone numbers, and email addresses in a letter addressed to the Chairman of INEC on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
In compliance with Clause 2(a) of the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Recall 2024, INEC has formally notified the Senator about the recall petition. A letter was delivered to her official address, with copies sent to the presiding officer of the Senate and published on the Commission’s website.

The next stage of the process, according to INEC, will be the verification of the list of signatories submitted by the petitioners. The Commission will scrutinize the signatures to confirm that they meet the legal requirement of securing the support of more than half (over 50%) of the registered voters in the constituency.
INEC assured Nigerians that this verification exercise will be conducted in the coming days, and the results will be made public. The outcome of this process will determine the next steps to be taken by the Commission.
“We once again reassure Nigerians that the process will be open and transparent,” Sam Olumekun, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information & Voter Education Committee, stated.
The recall process follows growing political tensions in Kogi Central, with observers keenly watching how events unfold.
