Ex-porn star sworn in as Colombian senator
A former adult film actress, Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz, has been sworn in as a senator in Colombia.
Ortiz, popularly known by her stage name, Amaranta Hank, won a seat in the March election after campaigning on a platform focused on the rights and protection of adult entertainment workers.
According to Colombian newspaper El Tiempo, Omaña will represent the Norte de Santander region under the left-wing Historic Pact coalition for the 2026 to 2030 parliamentary term. She secured the 23rd position on the coalition’s closed list.
The Historic Pact emerged as the strongest political bloc in the election, securing 22.72 per cent of the Senate vote, representing more than 4.4 million ballots and translating into 25 seats, according to data from Colombia’s National Registry.
Omaña began her career in journalism before entering the adult film industry and later returning to public life. She has maintained that her past should not determine her ability to serve in public office.
According to Infobae Colombia, the new senator has argued that women who have worked in the sexual economy make significant contributions to the country’s finances and should receive legal recognition instead of facing continued stigma.
Responding to criticism over her election, Omaña defended her right to hold public office in a TikTok video.
“Why can’t a woman who was in the adult industry aspire to an elected position?” she asked.
Omaña, who was born in Cúcuta, said her legislative priorities would also include mental health and initiatives addressing sexual abuse.
Her emergence in the Senate has attracted considerable attention in Colombia, particularly following her earlier appointment, alongside fellow former adult performer Juan Carlos Florián, as a deputy minister in the Ministry of Equality under President Gustavo Petro’s administration.
The appointments had sparked controversy within the president’s cabinet and renewed debate over the role of former adult entertainment workers in public office.
