A devastating rainstorm recently swept through four communities in Mahin Ward 1, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, leaving a trail of destruction and despair in its wake. The affected communities, namely Peteinu, Oriyomi, Gbabijo, and Magbeniwa, were visited by the Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Emergency Response, Hon. (Prince) Wellington Oriade Adebawo.

The visit, which was made on Thursday May 8, 2025, was facilitated by the Ondo State Emergency Management Agency (ODSEMA), and it was aimed at assessing the extent of damage caused by the rainstorm and identifying areas of need.
On arriving Ilaje, the Governor’s Special Assistant on Emergency Response and his team were warmly received by the Chairman of Ilaje Local Government, Hon. Maurice Oripenaye at the Local Government Secretariat in Igbokoda. Hon. Oripenaye subsequently thanked Gov Aiyedatiwa for the swift emergence response.

Hon. Adebawo and his team were afterwards accompanied by some officials of Ilaje Local Government to the affected communities.
During the visit, the team toured the four communities, where they witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of the rainstorm. Houses, schools, and churches were vandalized, leaving residents in helpless conditions. The Special Assistant and his team took note of the extent of damage and the urgent need for relief and support.

Hon. Adebawo assured the residents of the affected communities that the Ondo State Government, led by Governor Aiyedatiwa, was committed to providing relief and support to those affected by the rainstorm. He stated that the state government was passionate about addressing the situations and would do everything possible to alleviate the suffering of the people.
The heads of the four communities decried the ugly situation, imploring Gov Aiyedatiwa to come to their aid.
The residents, who were visibly traumatized by the experience, pleaded with the government to come to their aid. They explained that their houses were ravaged by the rainstorm, leaving them without shelter or basic necessities. They appealed to the government to provide them with relief materials, including food, clothing, and building materials.

Having listened attentively to the pleas of the residents, the governor’s aide further assured them that their concerns would be addressed. He promised to relay their needs to the state government and work towards providing them with the necessary support.
