Nigerian Red Cross Partners Ondo Govt, Distributes Relief Materials in Ilaje as Gov Aiyedatiwa’s Aide, Hon Wellington Adebawo Lauds Initiative
In a significant move to enhance the welfare and safety of riverine communities in Ondo State, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, in partnership with the Ondo State Government, has distributed boats, safety jackets, and non-food items to residents of Ilaje Local Government Area.

The distribution ceremony, which took place at the Nigerian Naval Base Igbokoda, where the Special Assistant to Ondo State Governor on Emergency Response, Hon. (Prince) Wellington Oriade Adebawo represented the state government, which also had in attendance the representative of Ondo State Emergency Management Agency (ODSEMA) Mr. Kehinde Aiyesa as well as the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ekiti State, Dr. Kofoworola Shoneye.
In his remarks, Hon. Adebawo commended the Nigerian Red Cross Society for its humanitarian efforts in providing relief materials to vulnerable communities in the state. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and community leaders in responding to emergencies and promoting disaster risk reduction.
The Chairman of Ilaje Local Government, Maurice Oripenaye, appreciated the Red Cross Society for bringing the initiative to Ilaje Local Government. He commended Hon. Adebawo for his exemplary commitment to enhancing emergency response in the state, noting that his efforts have been instrumental in facilitating the distribution of relief materials to affected communities.


Dr. Shoneye, who represented NEMA at the event, lauded the initiative of the Red Cross Society, emphasizing the need for continued collaboration and support from stakeholders to address the humanitarian needs of vulnerable populations. She commended the Ondo State Government for its proactive approach to disaster risk reduction and emergency response.
Mr. Adeniyi, an official of Nigerian Red Cross said the distribution of boats, safety jackets, and non-food items is expected to enhance the resilience of riverine communities in Ilaje Local Government Area, which are often affected by flooding and other disasters, adding that the relief materials will also support the livelihoods of fishermen and other community members who depend on the waterways for their economic activities.
The distribution ceremony was also attended by other stakeholders, including the Secretary of Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) Mrs Abike Bayo-Ilawole among others
