Ondo LCDA Vice Chairman Engage NELFUND Directors to Expand Student Access to Education Loan in AFUED, UNIMED
In a renewed effort to boost access to tertiary education in Ondo State, the Vice Chairman of Ondo South West LCDA, Adelosoye Maxwell Ademola, has met with directors of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to develop strategies aimed at increasing student and institutional engagement with the federal scheme. During the meeting held with NELFUND’s Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr. Aliyu Muhammed, it was revealed that awareness of the loan programme remains alarmingly low at Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), with only 995 students approved for a total of N68 million—despite over N84.2 billion already disbursed nationwide to more than 250,000 beneficiaries.
Hon. Maxwell pledged to meet with the Vice-Chancellors of both AFUED and the Ondo State University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) to directly facilitate NELFUND engagement on their campuses. While UNIMED’s high tuition fees were cited as a bottleneck, He argued that indigent medical students deserve equal access to financial support. He reaffirmed his commitment to working with all stakeholders to ensure the fund’s benefits reach more students, particularly those from financially disadvantaged backgrounds. “We must act now to ensure NELFUND becomes a transformative opportunity, not a missed one, for the youth of Ondo,” he stated.
