Democracy and Development: A Call to Build for Generations, Engr. Ayorinde Olawoye Reflects on Nigeria’s Democratic Journey

As Nigeria marks 26 years of uninterrupted democracy, Engr. Ayorinde Abiola Olawoye, FNSE FNICE, Special Adviser to the Governor of Ondo State on Infrastructure, Lands, and Housing, has joined well-meaning Nigerians to commemorate Democracy Day 2025, describing it as a celebration of collective resilience and a renewed call to build lasting systems that serve the people.

Engr. Olawoye, a seasoned development professional and advocate for sustainable infrastructure, noted that while democracy is rooted in freedom and representation, it must also translate into tangible development that improves lives. “True democracy is measured not only by elections but by the roads we build, the homes we secure, the public institutions we strengthen, and the quality of life our people enjoy,” he said.

He further lauded the efforts of Ondo state Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for his drive in serving the dividends of democracy through critical infrastructure development interventions. He also lauded citizens, civil society, and past democratic leaders who have upheld the tenets of participatory governance since 1999. “This milestone calls us to deepen our commitment to sustainable policies and people-focused infrastructure. Let us use this opportunity to recommit to building institutions and communities that reflect the ideals of equity, access, and accountability,” he added.

Engr. Olawoye further reaffirmed his dedication to supporting Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s vision for a more inclusive and economically vibrant Ondo State through quality infrastructure and smart urban development. He concluded by encouraging professionals across sectors to see democracy as a shared responsibility: “We all have a role in shaping the Nigeria we desire — one block, one plan, and one future at a time.”
