Kogi Varsity Lecturer Dies in Hotel During Encounter with Student
Dr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, a senior lecturer at Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, has died while allegedly having sexual relations with a 200-level female student. The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at a hotel in Anyigba.
The Kogi State Police Command confirmed the lecturer’s death, stating that an autopsy has been conducted to determine the exact cause. SP William Aya, the police spokesperson, described the incident as “unfortunate.”
According to the police, the hotel manager, Moses Friday, reported that 22-year-old Gloria Samuel, a student of PAAU, rushed to the reception seeking help after Dr. Ibikunle collapsed. Police were immediately notified, and the lecturer was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The student was subsequently taken into police custody and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
Dr. Ibikunle, who was reportedly married with children, had checked into the hotel with the student from the Department of Social Studies Education earlier that day. Unconfirmed reports suggest the lecturer may have consumed multiple energy drinks before the incident.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing, and further actions will be taken based on the findings.
